Sean Dunne takes an anthropological frame as he navigates his lens through 'the Gathering'; a "more than music" festival in the United States which caters for fans of hip-hop act Insane Clown Posse. A variable demography of Juggalo's and Juggalette's are interviewed throughout the film, with time-of-day often a dependent quality which determines the clarity and level of insight within the dialogue. The sexual objectification and techniques of neutralization delivered by the participants are juxtaposed to the message that 'the Family' is a collective unit built on principles of equality and unconditional love.
Taking a cinematic approach in production, American Juggalo investigates alienation within the modern United States context whilst simultaneously making commentary on white culture, education and consumerism in the 'greatest nation on the planet'. I cannot urge the viewer enough to spare twenty minutes for this film, there will be no regrets.
