Danny MacAskil: Way Back Home

Dave Sowerby joins the ever-growing list of 'landscape' sports filmmakers who place the subject (Danny MacAskil) in a supporting role to the surrounding environment. An enthralling cocktail of panning, replay and cinema verite'-style shooting positions the audience on the shores of black volcanic beaches, underneath giant iron bridges and sitting atop Edinburgh Castle (legs dangling off, if you are like me).

Although it may seem to be more a tourism advertisement for the Highlands of Scotland than a short film about mountain bike trials, Way Back Home is also a reminder of how the landscape is a place of influence; the protagonist in the narrative for many creative identities.
